Unfortunately the iPhone app that allows me to post to the blog from my iPhone (which has unlimited data) crashes every 15 words. Therefore, the Travel Journal will be posted on a Facebook page called RICKSHAW ON THE LOOP. It is a public site. We hope you will follow us there!!

Heading to Chattanooga....

The Rickshaw crew.

9/28/2013: We passed through Guntersville Lock today, unfortunately we had a 2-1/2 hour wait! The lock was near the end of our day- but until this small hiccup the day was awesome. This section of the river is pretty much uninhabited and more scenic than the previous days.

We are being to see more hills.

Here are some of the ways people enjoy the Tennessee River on a beautiful Saturday --

9/27/2013: We left our pretty and quiet anchorage this morning at 9am. It is hard to leave earlier; since we are traveling east the sun is BRUTAL until about 10am.

Wheeler Lock was our second lock on this trip. I think we have remembered all the skills and tricks we learned last year after this lock. We will do two more locks before we reach Chattanooga. Then we do them all again coming back.

The first anchorage we picked out, Limestone Creek, did not work out. Although it was BEAUTIFUL, it was way too shallow. We back tracked a mile to a deeper creek but also much wider and more exposed anchorage. Since there is not much wind predicted we feel secure.

The walls are ROUGH in the locks. We enter carefully with lots of fenders secured to both sides.

Our first choice for an anchorage. Lots like gators could be lurking under the trees.

It's so shallow weeds are growing around the channel markers! We will sleep better in deeper anchorage.

9/26/2013: Today we traveled 33 miles and passed through our first lock in over a year.   Wilson Dam is just east of Florence, Alabama and forms Wilson Lake, which is beautiful and much bigger than Pickwick Lake.

We are anchored out again in a nice cove with beautiful houses.

9/25/2013: Today, at 10:15am, we pulled in our lines from our slip at Aqua Yacht Harbor on Pickwick Lake and resumed our cruising life. It has been 1 year and 5 days since we docked Rickshaw there.   We are so excited to be cruising again.

Our cruising plan for the next 5 weeks is to go up the Tennessee River to Chattanooga. While in Chattanooga we will met looper friends Tara and Joe. We boated with them last year in Canada. From there we will return down steam stopping at Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville, Alabama, for the fall Looper Rendevzous. After the rendezvous we will Return to Aqua Yacht Harbor for a quick trip back to Memphis to put our car in storage. As soon as possible we will head down the Tom-Bigby to Mobile Bay. We expect to get to the gulf about November 1st.

As soon as we turned on to the river we were greeted by our first barge.

Since this part of the river runs through Pickwick Lake we had plenty of room to pass.

Our first day was a short cruise. We dropped our anchor only after 2 1/2 hrs on the river. We couldn't wait to anchor out and enjoy the peace of a beautiful secluded cove with blue herons and the sounds of fish rippling the surface.

We are getting Rickshaw ready for cruising the Tennessee River to Chattanooga. The plan is to leave Pickwick around Sept 26. Currently she is getting a bottom job and new carpet. We have not been able to live on her for the past three and half weeks. She should be ready for the water on Sept. 9th. I CAN'T WAIT!
